Why is the face of my brick flaking off?

That is spalling. Water gets into the brick, freezes, and pops the face off. It is often caused by hard cement mortar that traps moisture or by missing gutters and flashing above the wall.

Can you find brick that matches my 100-year-old house?

Usually, yes. We work with reclaimed brick yards around Massachusetts and can match most Boston-area water-struck and wire-cut brick closely.

Is it better to paint or seal damaged brick?

Neither fixes the damage. Paint and non-breathable sealers can trap water and make spalling worse. Replace the failed units first, then consider a breathable silane/siloxane repellent.

Do you repair stair-step cracks in brick walls?

Yes. Stair-step cracks are repaired by repointing and, when the wall has moved, installing stainless helical ties in the bed joints to stitch it back together.

How long does brick replacement take?

Most residential brick repairs take one to two days. Larger elevations requiring staging can take up to a week.
